Helpful tips when searching for your ancestor's name

in our Transcribed Genealogy Books:
- When inputting your ancestorʻs name in the search box, the name can be typed as all lowercase letters, all capital letters, or a combination of both types of letters. The search is not case specific.
- If the name entered in the search box is found in any of the transcribed books we have uploaded to the website, then the results of that search will appear on the next page. If an error message appears showing "no results found", try to search the name again using different spelling options. Most of these books are written without the use of diacriticals, so if necessary, try spelling the name without kahakō (–) or ʻokina (ʻ).
- Also try changing the spelling of the name that you are searching. Since the digitized documents are transcribed versions of the original copies, there may be variances in spelling.
- The original documents are also written in cursive so while we strive for 100% accuracy, you may find discrepancies. If the name has a letter that could be mistaken for another letter when handwritten (for example, an "I" as an "L" or an "n" as an "m"), try replacing the letter or using a truncated version of the name.
Example: If the name you are trying to search is "Liliʻuokalani" and the "no results found" message resulted on your search, you could try searching "Liliuokalani", "Liliu" or "Liliʻu".
